i am having problems with my driver....i am trying to use a ne555p.will that work?ii have reason to believe it wont because i had a ka555 and it worked fine.i have some ne555's coming and i am hoping they work.so the overall question is will a ne555p work.and also are you suppose to connect the middle and another pin together on a potentiometer?

Yeah, that's a common "best practice". Sometimes the wipers in pots start to poop out, or else make crummy contact from time to time. If the function of your pot is just as a variable resistor and you only connect the wiper and one end, crummy contact may send the resistance wildly out of range and/or cause the pot to burn up! Of course, that all depends on how much power you're pushing through there, too.
