I have a bag full of these, the number on top says 10-3079-01 D, I've searched everywhere but can't find any refrence to it. I got them in a grab box of random electronics parts I bought to pad up an order to get free shipping (box was $5, contents that I've used is already more than $5 worth, and I still have a ton of stuff) Theres 6 pins on one side and 5 on the other, the middle pin on the 5 side is unconnected and the middle 2 on the 6 side are unconnected.

That is the transformer out of some type of smps power supply, no idea what kind. It looks like it would be good for about 200w or so of output power, and probably has winding for 160v and 320v input voltages (fullwave rectified mains), along with a variety of secondary windings.
Do I smell a surprise box from the electronics goldmine

Yep, that was the place.. I was hoping it would make a good gate drive transformer or something. That little thing is good for 200W!? Wow...and I got 5. Next project...1KW SMPS..I already have an extra TL494 and UC3710T sitting around..free from TI
What voltage would it output? The thing is less than an inch in any dimension..Looks like it'd burn up if it went anywhere near an amp of output current.

hmm, yes the picture does make it look bigger. Steve is probably closer on the power output for a transformer of that size.
You could probably make a GDT out of it, although one of goldmines 5/$1 cores would be easier, etc. Just be very careful when you try to separate the cores, they can be extremely delicate especially for such a small transformer. I would recommend soaking it in hot water for a while to soften the glue then gently pull the core halves apart. I have also found that it helps to do a presoak in like 140f water before dropping it in a cup of boiling water or else the core can crack due to thermal stresses.

I already have a good GDT from a tiny 1.5cm toroid I ordered from mouser (thought it was bigger when I ordered...) but it seems to work pretty good driving a light bulb (see my post in the tesla forum)... I don't really want to take them apart, just find out what I could use it for...
