Few days ago i took apart pretty modern 8kVA power inverter from some sort of backup power supply and found this:

There are 36 power semiconductors on board, i unsoldered one and quickly tested it and it seems to be IGBT transistor with internal diode.

Closer look:

I couldn't find any info about these from internet, it seems that those are relabelled by Victron. What should i do with these?

Slap them in a coil and see how they hold up.

About a year ago i had bought a lot of about 100 or so IGBT's on Ebay. I couldn't find any information on them what so ever and come to find out they were custom made by IXYS for someone and would not disclose any info about them. dead

I threw them in a coil and they worked. The coil was a POS, too low coupling and too few primary turns, eventually they failed, but they did work. I am going to give them another try soon. That's about all you can do with yours I suppose.

If you want to know specs for those, if possible find place which got semiconductor analyzer. It is quite handy tool for this kind of situations :)

Kizmo, how did you conclude they are IGBT's?

Do you have transformers, chokes and rest of the inverter there? More information on the inverter?

Surely that would be usellesly many IGBT's for power level, especially considering that there is no significant efficiency gain from paralleling IGBT's I wouldn't expect to see more than four.

Looking at those fat leads makes me think that most are on low voltage side, so my best guess is that most if not all of those transistors are low voltage mosfets paralleled for massive current throughput.

looking at those transistors i think that they are infineon brand 20n60s5 mosfets (200s5)

I don't know what they're good for -- I just love how you show the PCB on a table saw ready for a little precision surgery! Ah yes ... you wouldn't believe the number of times I wished I could have actually done that ...

Cheers, Barry
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they're not.
