Any notebook battery masters here? I think my NB battery has just crapped on me. Yesterday it worked perfectly fine (after quite some time of no use (staying fully charged)) but today, as the charge indicator was at 95% it suddenly jumped to 6% and after few mins the battery was dead. I recharged it quite a few times, still the same problem. This is odd, how can a battery die from day to day? Is there really no help to it?

This is excatly the way how the old bateries dye when exposed to freezing conditions (old cars user experience). Is it freezing now in the Czech Rep???
I red some protocols for old Li-pol batteries recovery (high amps and fast discharging - try google) but I do not believe in it anyway...

I remember reading somewhere that Li-poly batteries have a finite life based on time- After 2 years, no matter how you treat them, they will begin to degrade. Apparently keeping them in a fridge helps, but I dunno.

It's now around 0C or a bit more, but I didn't have my NB out nearly long enough to freeze the battery.

The problem is that it didnt "degrade"- one day it was OK but the next day it was dead.
Is it OK to buy an "OEM" battery? The problem is that original one costs 3x as much as the OEM one.

I have never had any problem with non-manufacturer batteries. I have had several notebook batteries die on me and a couple of them died just like you describe.
Usually something in the battery faults (parameter gets too far out of range) that the battery's internal electronics don't like. The electronics then either try to compensate or just shut the battery down altogether.

I've never had much trouble with notebook batteries off eBay. They all seem to last for about 2 years, no matter where you got them, and no matter how you treat them...
I have dismantled one that refused to work at all, and it turned out to have a shorted cell. Maybe one of jmartis' cells went short too.

Rechargable lithium based batteries does not like to be fully charged and they don't like high temperatures. Those two conditions combined will reduce the lifetime dramatically.
Guess which conditions they commonly experience in notebooks...

It suddenly failed? Sounds like there's a loose connection. Perhaps some solder joints inside cracked in the cold? (I dunno. I've lived in Singapore most of my life, where the temperature never drops lower than 20 degrees C, so not much cold experience.)
Maybe try opening the battery to have a look? Li-poly batteries contain some circuitry too, you know. Charge/discharge regulators.
