Hi all. Plugged in my router supply the other morning and SNAP Crackle POP! :( GRRRR
Took it apart and it seems to have popped the main fuse, due to two of the four input diodes going bad, possibly triggered by the infamous brown glue disease.
Changed the bad diodes, cleaned off glue, replaced fuse. Now SMPS no longer blows fuses and the main capacitor charges but still no output. I'm seeing about 150 ohms on the output which is consistent with output resistor.
Any ideas? this supply was for my vigor 2500 router. I checked around the drive circuitry and there was a lot of brown glue on the optocoupler, but this seems to test OK. thanks, -A

Brown glue? Is this related to the factory-installed 'blue smoke' on which all electronic devices operate? Everyone knows that when a component releases its blue smoke then it no longer works, and we must get a replacement for its fresh supply of blue smoke.

The original fault was probably the switching transistor blowing short, which took out the diodes and fuse from overcurrent the first time. The next time you tried powering up, it blew the shorted transistor open.
