I have seen some motors with the magnets mounted in a slanted position. I believe this reduces cogging. Does anyone know why this is so and how benefitial is this method?
thanks

You're right, skewing the magnets (or laminations) reduces cogging. Benefits = lower start up torque and less vibration.
Google search the Fieldlines discussion board for 'motor conversion' and in particular check out posts by 'Zubbly' (R.I.P.)
