Lorentz forces act to push a railgun projectile outwards regardless of polarity. Hence it could theoretically run on AC. Similarly Jacobs ladders have been constructed to run using very high AC currents and can run in a loop but it requires many kW and they are fearsome devices. I think it was a German video so perhaps you have seen it.
Mine is a low power ladder and Lorentz forces are minimal.
Actually all Jacob's ladders are like this, just no-one makes the bottom half....

Hmmm... No-one has got this yet. Think of it as a puzzle with a simple answer.
I have posted this to the Australian Overclockers forum to see which forum gets it first. I would have thought that 4HV had a few clues that they wouldn't have but they have perhaps 50 times the number viewing that topic. (edit 40 views in 5 mins)

" I meant "Mine is a low power ladder and forces from the current in the rails are minimal." The second sentence was, of course, a joke.
