Howdy folks, I just ripped the flyback transformer out of a dead monitor (at least, it is now.) But there are a lot more leads poking into and out-of this thing than I expected. On top there's what looks like a 1-turn primary (1 turn??) loosely slung around a ferrite core. Poking out of the top of the grain-elevator-like structure are the high voltage secondary leads that went to the CRT. But that's not all... There's one red wire that snakes down to the bottom of the transformer and disappears inside some potting. Also on the bottom are 10 pins in a semicircle that went to the circuit board it was soldered to. Any ideas what are these extra connections are? It's a Sampo FEA321. Sampo has no information about it on their website. I'm looking forward to my first Jacobs Ladder but I thought it best to identify ALL these leads first. Thanks, Apchar

I believe your transformer will not be useful for Jacobs ladder, from your description it seems it has a built-in HV capacitor which doesn't allow drawing arcs, just sparks.
Anyway if you want to power it up, wind a primary winding on the exposed core, bring the HV (thick red) lead near the bottom of your flyback, power up your driver at low power (if possible) and find a pin to which it wants to arc. This will be your HV ground.
The additional wires are Screen and Focus voltages for the CRT. All the pins on the bottom have their function, there's a primary winding and auxiliary windings for providing additional voltages for the monitor such as heater, 200V for the output stages, horiz. deflection etc. I don't know what the single turn on the core is for.
