I started on my first tesla coil last night. I went the easy route and bought a secondary off ebay. It's going to be a DRSSTC using Steve Ward's controller design.
Here's some pictures from last night tuning the secondary and mocking up the primary and MMC.

Next up is working on the mechanical aspects of the coil form and base while I wait for controller boards to be fabbed.

Your coil (as far as it is up to now) looks good!
What IGBTs or FET do you plan to use? Full or halfbridge?
Keep posting if there are new details!

You're going to have to re-tune your coil to find its resonant point because you're too close. Your body stops interfering at about 4 feet from the coil so measure at a little bit of a distance.
I was doing a frequency sweep of one of my coils and saw the moment my dad walked in the room on the scope screen. That's how sensitive it is sometimes.
