Hi, I did have a about 16 VCR SMPSs and so far I have ripped them all apart for parts, now I only have 2 left and I thought it would be nice to do something constructive instead of destructive. Anyway I would like to use them for a PSU, I have no idea how as they have about a multiplug of about 14 pins and I can't work out how to get it out of the low power standby mode. They are from a quite old unit so I am hoping it is easier. Any help or ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

For starters what type of controller IC does it use? It's pretty much impossible for us to help you without actually seeing a schematic, so you're mostly on your own. You'll just have to probe around and reverse engineer the circuit. It might be easier if you had the VCR it came from to see how it interfaced with the smps. Good Luck!

They do not have any driver IC on it, the only IC it has is a PC111 opto-relay. I don't have the patience to reverse engineer it so its gonna go for parts.
But I have one more question WAY off topic but I didn't think it was worth it starting a new thread. I wondered if teslathons were open to the public, like me to watch in the shadows (I live near Cambridge)

16 VCRs wow. There are other usful parts in VCRs too. The older VCRs have a pin diode in them which is usful, this is found in the IR reciever. The newer IR reciever have the 40khz reciever built in the pin diode, which make it less useful. Some other things I have found in VCRs are super capacitors, voltage detector ICs, dew sensors and belts&pullies. I have never found a use for the power supplies, but only for parts.
