Well, I've started construction of my DRSSTC. The Half bridge is made of IRG4PC50UD IGBTs and a doubler using 2460uf per "leg" and 30A diodes. The secondary is 4.5 inches by 14.75 inches wound with 28 gauge wire.

Below are pictures of the Half Bridge, Secondary Coil, and Interrupter-To-Be. The black box is a painted aluminum box for shielding the interrupter.

Sure is, but I have to remove this GDT in order to make a 1:2:2 transformer- this one was originally designed to be an SSTC, not DR, so I need around 30V on the gates instead of the supply voltage tongue
Anyways, the interrupter is done, attached is a picture. Based on 2 555's, Steves circuit with adjustable BPS and On time. LED for power indication. Output is an RCA jack, with ground tied to the aluminum box.

Where do you guys just get those *huge* ferrite toroids? I always mess with tiny ones and pull tiny wires trough them, usually ending turn or two from saturation.

Those at bytemark are ridiculously expensive, plus shipping. huh.

I got like 5 from Electronic Goldmine, they are cheap and work good.

Lucky for me there two surplus stores close by. They look like this when i get them. I soak them in acetone and all the crap and windings come off easily.

Alright, I now have the primary done, with some Plexi! Chris, I don't know how you even bear to work with this stuff- what a pain! There are 7 Turns, with a radius of 4 inches.

Too bad those don't ship here.

These 1inch wide toroids are probably a big overkill for GDT's though, They have cross section for like several hundred watts throughput.

EDY: you stole my plexi bending idea! cheesey I like it, except the wire you used looks rather odd. I pulled the copper pipe all way trough, it was pain but looked so good in the end.

Yeah, I used grounding cable instead of pipe like most people- working at Lowe's gave me the opportunity to get about 30 feet of it for 8 bucks though- its basically about 8 strands of 14AWG wire twisted together, so I figure it can probably handle the currents.

Alright, I'm at school now, so progress has slowed, but the parts are coming down here next time i go back home for a weekend! I just ordered some more parts as well, and I am making a new bridge board, but I am switching to the full bridge topology. Basically, I'll have two of those half bridge boards seen above combined to one PCB, so a total of 12 820uf 200V capacitors (6 per half bridge) as well as one 6uf poly cap per half bridge. Updates to come- maybe soon, maybe not- I'd like to see if i can make the PCB in the electronics assembly room at my university- that'll make it look nice! And lastly, I ordered some more of the CD caps, for a total of 8 of them- I am still trying to choose what capacitance I wish to have. I was looking into a 75nf 8kv MMC for starters, but comments and suggestions are welcome!!!
