Introduction. This is my first real drsstc that I'm going to build with a friend of mine. It will be used for a research project. For our school.
I'm hoping to use this topic as a build log and post some of my questions and hopefully receive some comments.
The research questions. We have chosen the following research questions:
- Why do the arcs split up in forks? - What determines the efficiency of a drsstc (max arc lenght min power (interuptor setting will be always the same))?
Some specs. The coil is going to be based on Steve Wards schematic. Who else :P
The secondary coil will be 20 centimeter in diameter and 1 meter tall. And will be wound with 22AWG wire.
The primary will be made of 110 X 0.5mm aluminum sheet.
The MMC will be totally modular in order to research the impact on the efficiency (I already have 30 0.15uf 2KV caps).
The interrupter will be computer controlled because we need to trigger a camera as well. This way we can capture the sparks on film. Hopefully we will see a connection between on time and spark shape.
Updates.
MMC is finished
And the H-bridge is almost finished.
Here's the same topic, in dutch on an other tech (computer) forum

I'm not completely sure which wire diameter I should use, is 22AWG wire ok for a 1 meter high, 20 centimeter in diameter secondary. Or is there a better choice.
