Mots, NSTs and shunting

I know I have asked this in the past, but I was thinking of this while driving...

NSTs are shunted; MOTs are not. What is it about the iron core with a NST that shunts the field. I am looking for the physics behind this and not just the explaination that there are laminations running from point A to B.

Also, theoretically speaking, what would happen if one shorted a MOT made with wire capable of withstanding huge amounts of current and a power source capable of supplying unlimited current on the primary? Is there a point where the current is limited, albeit a high value?

I believe ALL MOTs are shunted, mine are.
Look between the pri. and sec. windings.

If no one comes up with a url for the physics I'll explain it.

If you short the secondary, and the primary can supply plenty of current despite the shorted secondary, the reflected load from sec to pri. is the square of the impedance as a resistive load.

All of my MOT's have shunts as well.

Basically the flux is being shunted around the coil through the core so not all of the flux goes to the coil.
