I am thinking about making a device to observe tissue structures in the mouth using a micro camera that would be attached to a small (1-2" square) LCD screen. I've started searching for sources of parts but I am not finding what I want. Does anyone know any sources for micro cameras (not wireless) and LCD screens? Any good sources for pre-made video processing units so I don't have to start soldering board?

I would definantly recomend an endoscope, as even the smallest cameras out are still well over a 1/4" in diameter... As to the LCD, I do not know of any commercial sources, but you usually can usually use the viewfinder from a videocamera with a normal composite signal, you just need to probe arround on the board for a while to figure out where to feed it in.

I am trying to find a source for the parts as I want to develop a device for my medical field. I can't use existing scopes and devices.

Don't forget that you will need some form of illumination also.

Is this Link2 more what you want?

Jaycar sells pinhole cameras that are around the sizes of coins. Things like that aren't hard to get. I can't say anything about LCDs.

Do you really, really need the camera inside the mouth?

Medical companies already have devices for scoping body cavities. I want to try and "build a cheaper mousetrap."

I understand there are other items I will need, but right now I am specifically looking for the raw parts to I can capture a video image. I need a fiberoptic cable for the end, a camera to get the internally reflected image and a video processor and screen. This all needs to be hand-held. I need the raw parts because I want to be able to assemble this cheaply and fit it to an illuminated medical device. A pre-packaged "spy-camera" will not work.

I am sure there are sources overseas but I don't have any connections which is why I made the initial post.
