My dad has a large wine collection and he sometimes makes wine and he has... well a lot of bottles here's a pic of some of them could I full a tub with baking soda and fill all the bottles with that and connect them in parallel. Dose anyone have any experience with doing this would I have enough capacitance for a dual MOT SGTC?

Just buy yourself some capacitors, It'll save you a lot of trouble in the end- not to mention space. However, if you insist on using bottles, most people suggest using clear ones.
do you think they would work though, is it possible to get the required capacitance out of them would I need a reasonable number or would it be in the hundreds? I really wouldn't want to spend the money I'm trying to get a scope.

for a resonant capacitor with a 500ma 2kv microwave oven transformer, you need about .66uf of capacitance. If each bottle is approximately 700pf, you'll need almost 1000 bottles. Besides the fact that this would occupy a whole room in itself, the performance would likely not be very great. If you really want a tesla coil, its worth putting some money into decent capacitors-you'll notice a difference performance wise, and it is really satisfying to have a nice looking coil that you can show off and be proud of!
OK I guess I would want to bulk order some of the Cornell doubler caps I should get alto also to use in my DRSSTC. Can I make a large bank with them for a smaller coil would it only be good for a fly back?

Nobody *ever* uses resonant capacitors with MOTs. The resulting low voltage and huge current in the tank circuit makes the spark gap design all but impossible.

try rolling some polyethylene caps. A friend of mine made a few and put them in series for use in a sparkgap TC, and they haven't failed yet :P Best of all, they're cheap ^^. Garbage bag and Al foil?
Thanks for the advice for the caps. So should I open a new thread for how would i use the MOT I have 2 and I was setting them up with doublers do I still use the standard SGTC design or is the MOT design different?

Hey, check out my website. I used bottle caps and a 6MOT stack! I got 52" sparks. Link in signature. It even tells all about constrution of bottle caps. It wasn't extremely efficient, but I didn't care.
