If I get two 120VAC input to 12volt 3amp Output step down transformers both with center taps rated at 6 volts, will the center tap to one side still yeild 3amps output capability?
I want to know if I can series one "entire" transformer to the other's "half" if you know what I mean. I'm trying to think of how to describe this, say one transformer has a left, middle, and right tab on it with the middle tab being center tap, I will join the 1st transformer's right tab to the 2nd transformer's left tab, then taking my power off of the 1st's transformer's left tab and th eseconds middle, and not using the 2nds right tab or half.
Thus I'm hoping for 18 volts at 3 amps.....I can't find an 18 volt step down trans...... so recitified to a cap bank I get just over 25 volts.

Hey thanks man. You mean 1/2 the secondary (you stated primary) can yeild 3 amps though right? Because the stepdowns I am looking at on MarVac Electronics don't have a center tapped primary so what I would like to do is to parallel the primaries to the 120VAC source, then series the one full secondary to half of the other secondary by utilizing the center tap tab. I'm pretty sure thats what you meant, just want to be sure this will work for me. Here's a pic one of the transformers man.

Your questions always make my head hurt. I'm guessing what you're trying to achieve is a transformer combo that gives 18v AC? In which case, sure it will work. You will get 18v at 3A if you get the phase right as ... mentioned.

My apologies man. Thanks, yup thats what I'm lookin for 18volts AC @ 3 amps. By the way Steve I checked out your link to the audio amp you built a while back as I am an audiophile myself. There's no way in heck I would attempt to build anything audio related though, WAY out of my league. All I can say is awesome man very very impressive.
