Where is a good place to get potential transformers used for metering. They aren't very common where I live....
Where do you suggest I get one

If I may make a suggestion... fill out your profile and put your location in.

Not knowing where you live makes suggesting a source of parts a bit tricky.

If you live near NJ, i have a quite a bit of stock of these . . .

Right now, i only have 14.4kV, 240mA units (1.5kVA but can be run at 3.0kVA no problem)

I also have some 1500 W 14.4 kV PT's that I want to get rid of - I have too much junque and too little time... smile
I'm near Chicago - local pick up only. These are ABB type 7525A68G10, single fuse, indoor substation type (the fuse and fuse clips and be removed). Can provide more info if anyone is interested.

I know here the utility company has a quarterly surplus sale that they sell off all kinds of stuff to contractors and the public. you can get pigs for $300 or so from them.

I bought mine from these guys Link2 I had to rent a truck and pick it up. It cost roughly $1000 CDN and was a refurbished Westinghouse 16Kv 10MVA.

They are tough to get as copper is expensive and they are only making enough to meet the demands of power companies. No overstock.

I hope you rented a big enough truck if it really was 10MVA.

Just noticed this thread, and sparky, I'm not all that far from you (Seattle, WA). What sort of PT are you looking for? Collectively, my very loose-knit group of local coiling buddies posesses many PTs and several pigs; they're relatively easy to find here, or perhaps we just know where to look wink Generally, however, I'm a bit reluctant to hand these things out except to people I know have dealt with them before. Email me if you need to argue about this, though.

PTs do come up on eBay from time to time, however they tend to be WAYYYY too expensive (from a hobbyist perspective, of course!). I've never paid the utility's salvage unit more than $100 (before tax) for ANY transformer, including a pair of 25kVA pigs a couple of years ago and those monster PTs I picked up just yesterday.

Cheers,
Aaron, N7OE

If it's the one in your avatar, I'm assuming you meant "kVA", not "MVA". 10MVA would be like a substation or arc furnace transformer. They come up for sale on eBay periodically, but my wife won't let me bid wink
