I decided to construct a "plastic capacitors" type high voltage DC supply using 4" PVC pipe and mineral oil. I was very impressed with a look of this project considering the relative simplicity of the design.
I use my universal multi-frequency 555/IGBT driver to run the flyback setting it at roughly 2Khz. By using the filament output of the fly back as the primary drive I am running at about 7-8VDC drawing about 3 amps
I had a hard time making this video as it was my first time using Final Cut Pro.

I think that looks great! Also it seems to producing a nice arc.
