Hah, that is so cool. I bet you could do some neat things using an electromagnetic track, or aybe an electromagnet-augmented permenant magnet track, since electromagnets alone would probably use an obscene amount of power.

So what magnet track configuration gives rise to repulsion when it's close, and attraction when far away?

Presumably Ernshaw doesn't foul things up as although there's stability left-right and up-down, there's no force along the track

The superconductor seems to resist any changes in magnetic flux it sits in; energy input is required to change the eddy current inside the superconductor.

It is quite complicated, this is a type II superconductor that has defects that are not superconducting. The fieldlines pass through the defects to make the train stable. Then you have the eddy currents in addition.
