Confirmed geodetic effect to less than 1%. Still working on frame dragging though.

Just an interesting note: the man responsible for the star tracker aboard GPB sits in the cubicle next to me. He's got the engineering model of one of the fancy gyroscopes sitting on his desk, thats one fancy marble.

Sounds like NASA have pulled the plug on further data analysis (New Scientist, no news of this yet on the Stanford site, I wonder why?)

Breaks in the data collection due to solar flares causing reboots, and unintended classical torques operating on the gyroscope spheres due to non-uniformity of the coating, have resulted in noise levels that are still a couple of orders of magnitude greater than the intended experimental precision.

The GPB team hope that with another 2 years' money, they can turn the noise into understood and modelled effects and pull the relativity signal out. NASA's team think that even if they do, the results will be so dubious as to be worthless, especially as lasers bounced off mirrors on the moon have already demonstrated the effect to better precision.

Spare a thought for Everitt who spent 40+ years of his professional life on this one experiment. They were aware of the importance of uniform sphere coating before it flew, yet still got it wrong.

Thank you Dr. Slack,

I had a thread locked when arguing with an admin prior to the launch. It was over the possibility they would see erroneous positive results.

Careful,
:)
