I am trying to get my N2 laser working and it is tough. My set up is like this: Ground sheet: one piece 12inches by 12 inches of alumimun foil Upper capacitors: 5.5 inches by 12 inches Electrodes: 1/8 inch brass rods 12 inches long Dielect: 4 sheets of 1 mil clear plastic. (drop cloth)
I have a few questions: Currently the capacitors are being weighed down by two novel sized books. Is this sufficient? I have some brass polisher (Brasso) can I use that on my rods? It certainly polishes them up, but I am worried about residue poisoning my laser. My 4 sheets of plastic are close together but I am sure there are some gaps I can't get rid of. Should I switch to say some 4 mil thick plastic? Is your spark gap really loud?
Any suggestions are welcome Thanks Graham
