I would say buzzer for the first one, possibly an overtemp switch.
As to the meter, there isn't any chance that you can pull some screws off the back and pull the whole assembly out? Short of that, you could rotate it at an odd angle ;)
As to the current transformer, it would probably work at 60hz (although not very well methinks)...

The meter is 1mA full-scale-deflection, scaled 0 to 1. To convert to a voltmeter add a (1kOhm x Voltage) resistor in series with the meter. e.g. to use it for 0-1 kV use a 1 MOhm resistor. NOTE: 1mA x 1kV = 1 Watt, so use a 2W or more rated resistor.
