I have reproduced this experiment
with : -software from grafitty research lab to track green dots, used to write on buildings with a green laser like with a pen on a sheet -rail of green leds from a scanner -glass plate -mirrors rails from a scanner -psu -webcam

Yeah of course, as a single or multi pointer, with pressure sensitivity ( as light increases when you press harder on the plate ). But i have do build a custom software for that. Not tomorrow ..

Hmm, If you could get around the problem of the touch part of the screen not being in front of the screen that might be an interesting piece of hardware to have around.
But just as a free standing panel I can't see much practical use for it... Perhaps some type of synthesizer... Like put amp/freq on the 2 axis, and then wherever there is a point you play that tone. I could see some very different music coming out of that...

That is all kinds of awesome. I agree, if the touch panel could be overlayed on the screen (like in the original example) it might show more usefulness, but that doesn't deminish how leet it is. I want one. *_*

In fact, in the original device, the plate is not overlayed on the screen, there is a camera behind, and a videoprojector, that projects the image on the plate as feedback. My glass plate is stand alone, with a webcam behind, and I watch the result on the laptop. The idea of the synthesiser is cool.
