Hello all, this is my first post.
I’ve been experimenting with Tesla Coils for around 2 years now and finally sat down and did the calculations to build one the correct way instead of just throwing one together with salvage I had lying around like I’ve done with my others. I’ve had pretty good success with my new one except for one problem; the secondary has been arcing to itself. I would assume this is an insulation problem so I coated it with spray-on polyeurothane. I’ve tried this fix once already and it fixed it, but didn’t last very long before it started arcing again. If anyone has some tips to fix this problem that would be great!
Specs: Transformer: 7.5kV 30mA NST Cap Bank: 14x Cornell Dublier 942C20P15K-F Capacitors Secondary: 1200 Turns of 28 gauge magnet wire
Thank you, Jesse

Without calculating res frequencies that usually happens when you have a frequency mismatch causing high and low voltage nodes along the coil. The bottom of teh coil sould be at ground and the top 1/4 wavelength of the res freq. If it is 1/2 wavelength you will get the high voltage at the middle of the coil and nasty stuff starts happening with arcs everywhere. insulating more wont fix the problem. Focus on the math and tuning the coil.
