Hey guys.
On a bit of a learning curve. I'm working on my first tesla coil, which will be a classic 4" SGTC with a 2-segment blown spark gap (tungsten electrodes). The transformer is a 15/60 and I'm building this from a set of plans provided by a fairly well-known tesla builder.
I've been buying some parts and here is where the confusion comes in. The plans designer recommends ten 942C20P15K-F caps, I guess in series. I've been looking through the MMC Cap Chart: http://classictesla.com/download/mmc_cap_chart.pdf and it looks like my arrangement would be cutting it a little close, especially relating to voltage 'headroom' and temperature rise.
I want to build a reliable coil but I also don't want to offend the guy who has been very generous in helping me, but I thought it would never hurt to get a second opinion. So would this MMC indeed be suitable, or should it be beefed up? How would you recommend going about it?
And sorry for yet another MMC post. I know they are discussed ad nauseam. I guess I've done just enough reading to get myself thoroughly confused.
