How can I set my safety Terry filter spark gap to fire just over the NST output when the mains voltage, here in the UK, can vary +10% to -6% from nominal?
Same problem applies to main spark gap setting too to fire at NST volts if volts can vary so much from nominal.

Well others may have already gone thru this. But I GUESS, it is not that critical. I think air humidity has a lot more influence than something around 1kv or a bit more on the output. As I said, I think... Not sure. But I can't get a spark from a 2kv MOT with a spark gap like 0.2mm. Just remember to turn everything off when adjusting things. And capacitores must be always discharged.

Thanks for that........ I am very careful with HV stuff. 3 strings of bleeders across caps. Also use a bang stick and shorting out leads and handle with ONE hand only as well.
Caps can bite later as do HV cables, after discharging when stresses are relieved so I never trust them.
In the last day my mains volts have shown a 5 % variation. At 15,000 v from the NST that represents a 750v swing . Probably will be over 1,000 volts soon so I guess my best bet is to set all the safety/main gaps when the mains it at max to be on the safe side.
