Hello i bought 40 caps for my mmc bank for tc as all my homemade plate caps burned out. I connected it and started tunning. My spark gap is normal static gap with 8 electrodrs(4 gaps) 0.7 mm each. I am running the coil with flyback powered by zvs. Powering zvs with 2 laptop power suply put in sereis so that output voltage is around 32 v 4.7 A. The problem is that when i plug it in it works for lets say 0.5 s then turns off and turns on again, just like the power supplies are shorted out. Thats what i tought but no when i disconnect thr coil an try to draw an arc from flyback it works just fine. But whem its connected to the mmc and coil it cant work continiusely, but sometimes(moment i plug it) it works good for a little longer. I can only get it to work normal by making spark gap smaller or by taking out one(smaller) supply. Before mmc caps it used to work well. So how to prevent that power supply overload? And is it ok if i instead of making mmc smaller, put a bigger topload?sorry for bad english and tnx for help.

Hello, have you used the tesla map to see what size the MMC should be? Maybe the flyback is having issues charging the capacitors quick enough and strong enough to break down the air to jump the gap. Is the power supplies and stuff shielded from the feedback from the coil, that might have an effect i dont know how your set up looks. Just throwing ideas. You have any way of testing the draw of each power source to see if they are getting overloaded and have a safety to shut down?

hmm the thing with the gap probably isnt the problem, as the coil works great of i only have it running on one power supply, if i then connect second it just turns on and off. But if i run it only on that one second supply it acts the same as when both are wired. So i guess its the power supply. I just burned my zvs, dont know how but one of the mosfets is dead. I now need to replace it and probably buy better psu. Where do i find cheap supply that can output around 24 v 10 a? My coil is tuned as it gives nice 15 cm arcs, when powersupplies decide to work ofc.

What does your set up look like. How is the coupling of the primary to the secondary? How tall is the secondary, diameter, turns, and with the primary?

Ok so i replaced the laptop psu with atx psu, and the problem is still sthe same. I have zvs driver powered by those atx supplies put in series, then the tv flyback connected to mmc bank and static spark gap. Secundary is 25 cm tall and 2.5 cm in width, my primary is around 9 turns pancake coil with innter width of 4 cm and outer around 14 cm. Topload is basically a plastic pipe bent and wraped in aluminium.
