Afternoon everyone,
I've been looking at oscilloscopes and of course like everyone cost is a factor. Would anyone use the
Hantek 6022BE USB Digital Oszilloskop 2Kanal 20MHz Storage Oscilloscope 2CH Link2

For let's say Steve Wards sstc mini

Thank in advanced for any opinions and experiences

I used to have that 'scope. I didn't use it much. The hardware itself isn't too bad, but the software that came with is was extremely basic. Also worth remembering is that nothing is isolated, so the ground clip of the oscilloscope is connected the USB ground, which may or may not be connected to earth, depending on whether you are using a laptop.
That said, it's probably a good first oscilloscope, and you yet what you pay for, it certainly isn't bad value.

Isolation would be a con i didn't consider, is there any other ones that around that price that is good usb based or not. I definitely am new to this I've made a sgtc and now have made a sstc and had issues with performance I've redone my GDT twice now. For tesla coils would you really need one that is higher than 20MHz i know i would not want to check freq higher than like 5 because of the oscilloscopes ability to accurately read it... If i have understood the whole sample rate etc etc correctly

For low voltage stuff (5V) is ok once you get used with the software
Anything above 5V is diode clamped so only good for digital stuff or you can use the 10x attenuation but it distorts the waveform a lot.
Doesn't work well above Windows 7. You can find a fan made driver/app for Win 10 but it has some limitations.

Despite all these limitations i used this scope successfully to build several SSTC's but if you want to use it for more advanced coils don't...

Thank you for your input Dexter, that was basically my main question. From reading other forums and other sites there are a lot of people who are trying to get into this, but they typically get everything but this answer. I also saw posts about the windows 7+ issues i saw on hanteks website that they had updated software and drivers for windows 10. Are these updates the ones with the issues? I went ahead and ordered the oscilloscope to learn and experiment, and if I experience issues or find a way to get it to work ill share it on here. Seems like most of the time any type of USB device has buggie issues because windows tries to automatically use a driver it thinks is appropriate and it does nothing but mess everything up like the Arduino... We should all just go back to Linux haha

So far this oscilloscope works well for testing the interrupter etc. the software is finicky at times but nothing that would make it not worth the price to have an oscilloscope at a budget price Also i am running it on windows 10. So far i am satisfied with the scope. If anyone else is looking has this scope and is having issues with it's software feel free to DM me or post on here ill see if i can help.

How does it works for Time/DIV of 50ms and higher? Because mine crashes at these settings.

Usually works fine it sometimes would lag up the red light would flash on the Hantek but i would just hit the AUTO button next to the play button in the tool bar and it would start working again then adjust from there. One of the finicky things. I have noticed if you have the vertical set about right then mess with the horizontal it seems to not freeze or if it does its for a second. But thats the finicky part of it. Are you able to run it with out having to restart with the driver signature turned off?
