Hello all, I posted this a while ago but didn't get any responses. I recently started the project back up and wanted to ask again.
I recently built something very similar to Steve's mini SSTC 5. All runs well when using full wave rectification (filtered, unfiltered, CW or interrupted) but I can only run it in half wave if it's filtered (interrupted or CW). If I power the coil with unfiltered half wave rectified mains I get an extremely low output, I can start very small arcs from the top load with a screwdriver but that's it. I have no idea what could be causing this. I tried this with both an antenna feedback and a CT feedback with the same results.
Has anyone had any similar issues?

I am going to try and ad an oscillator to trigger the 74HC14. I don't know why I didn't think of this before. It makes sense that oscillation would stop during the 0V periods of half wave rectification (meaning no feedback ) I feel kind of stupid now. I will post here once I give it a shot.

you shouldn't get extremely low output while using unfiltered half wave rectification but something similar to interrupted mode at 50Hz ~40% duty cycle
