It seems my car has an electical gremlin. My driver side headlight has exploded (twice). The outer bulb shatterd (I think due to water in the bulb cover). But the passenger side lighbulb went out aswell today! The lowbeam filliment exploded inside the bulb (I still had highbeams) and about 30min after the lowbeam went the high beam filliment blew out!
I haven't meter'd the leads yet, I will get on it as soon as I can. Untill then, any ideas?

if you get your oily fingers on the bulb upon installation then it will cause it to explode. use something you know is clean like a paper towel or tissue when you plug it into the socket.

Hey guys As rev said, any grease or moisture on the bulb is bad juju. When the bulb heats up, anything on the surface causes it to expand unevenly, cracking / shattering the bulb. This can happen with regular miniature incandescent but is far more common with the halogen types.
Wiki quote for a related issue: "Any surface contamination, notably fingerprints, can damage the quartz envelope when it is heated, by causing the neighbouring quartz to change from its vitreous form into a weaker, crystalline form which leaks gas. Consequently, quartz lamps should be handled without touching the clear quartz, either by using a clean paper towel or carefully holding the porcelain base. If the quartz is contaminated in any way, it must be thoroughly cleaned with rubbing alcohol and dried before use."
I don't think this is an electrical fault at all, but I could of course be wrong :P Regards, Pete
