I have a dispute with an eBay seller of powered iron toroids. He says that a toroid that I bought is a type T300-2. I doubt it's type 2 powered iron, because those are traditionally painted red, while what I bought was grey.
Anyway, I wrapped about 80 turns around the core, and got an inductance of 130uH and an Al of 21, measured at 200kHz with a DIY Atmega168 based transistor/RLC tester. The Al of T300-2 is supposed to be 11.4, which would give an inductance of 70uH. So my experimental value is 86% higher. Another thing I did was make a crappy transformer out of it. I found that the highest output was around 1.2Mhz, sharply decreasing under and over.
So is this type 2 material?
EDIT: I tested a known type 2 core, T130-2, and calculated an Al value exactly the same as the datasheet value. So now I'm doubting this seller's claim. What is that core really made of?

If it was advertised as a "Micrometals T300-2" then you have received the wrong item (wrong colour and inductance value) Micrometals do not have copyright on Txxx-xx so any manufacturer can have their own version. Look carefully at the advertisement.

It was advertised as Micrometals T300-2/97. I, and the seller, assumed it was some production code or something. I can't find reference to a 2/97 anywhere on the micrometals website.

Could it have been made in February 1997? also, is it possible to ask Micrometals for their opinion?
