Interesting, but it still needs big capacitors. Any idea what outputs the Russian ones achieve?

IIRC the "RADAN" series of accelerators is a somewhat scaled down version of the "SINUS" series; i.e., both have the same kind of Tesla transformer with a built-in open ferromagnetic core/coaxial pulse forming line. I think the SINUS version can produce 2 MV.

Regarding some kind of "inductive voltage adder" versus other methods (of generating high voltage), I suppose the choice would depend on your intended use. In this case, an inductive voltage adder of the type described in the link would apparently be more complicated, much bigger and heavier, and certainly much more expensive, IMO.

The modern high speed SiC MOSFET's have come down a lot in price over the past few years (down to about 10% of what they were). This fact alone is starting to make inductive adder pulse generators a lot more practical for hobbyists.

The SINUS sounds pretty impressive, and I suppose lots of people here have experience of DRSSTC's and their assiciated capacitor arrays, so maybe the large capacitor on the primary isn't as great an issue as I first thought. The inductive adders generally have a capacitor for every MOSFET anyway.
