Notice he is using a twig as one "leg" of the Marx, presumably to replace the resistors otherwise needed to distribute current
Never heard of this hack until now, fascinating indeed.

Wow, I'm surprised how well that works. I imagined the twig would form carbon tracks after only a few shots, but it just kept on going.
Certainly cheaper than a bag of HV resistors :)
