does anyone other than me (I believe in many conspiracy theories)
(and I look at all the 'free energy' stuff in vain hope!)
suspect that there may be a connection between Alaskan HAARP activities
and the recent behavior of the jet stream ?

... feel free to ridicule me !

OOPS !

I think a lot of research in physics is compromised by military funding, so that whatever good may come from it is counterbalanced and undermined by Satanic debt.

Military interest in the ionosphere began with HF propagation forecasting of Maximum Usable Frequencies (MUF) in the 1930s.

You don't need a crystal ball to foresee possible military abuses of our ionosphere: dense patches of ionisation might be able selectively to disrupt satellite communications, conceal the presence of satellites or missiles, or even defensively block X-rays generated by extra-atmospheric nuclear explosions preventing EMP and so-called 'x-ray pindown'. There could also be applications in over-the-horizon radar, and snooping of one kind or another.

The role of BAE Systems in setting up the HAARP program will not reassure everybody.

No, we have this rule: "Don't use the chatting board as a crutch. If your thread involves the topics covered by the more specific boards on the forum, don't post it in the chatting board to avoid having to follow certain rules."

So any mad ideas will still be subjected to scientific rigour.

Is the HAARP antenna farm a type of phased array system ?

It is said to be, and from photos of the array that I've seen, I'd say that it certainly looks to be one.

As I've suggested above, there seem clear strategic reasons why a military power should want to manipulate the ionosphere, but a lot of the internet chatter about HAARP looks to be of the same quality as all the 'free energy' and cars-that-run-on-water scribbling we see too much of.

We live in a world of perpetual compromise between good and evil, so I'm quite happy to accept the claim that many who work at HAARP have no military or national security interests or agenda at all, just as many who work with nuclear fission have no interest in the design of weapons and may even be opposed to them.

One should also bear in mind that HAARP's reputed Pout 3.6MW is just a drop in the ocean compared with the ionising radiation of the sun where it impacts on the ionosphere.

I would guess that one of HAARP's missions is to simulate some of the effects of extra-atmospheric nuclear explosions as programmes like the STARFISH PRIME* high altitude thermonuclear test of OPERATION FISHBOWL are no longer politically accceptable. So far as I understand it, the US strategic nightmare envisaged Soviet nuclear submarines in US coastal waters firing salvos of nuclear warheads into the ionosphere, so that EMP would degrade the American electronic and electrical architecture with almost no warning - 'x-ray pindown' - giving time for long range Soviet ICBMs to arrive unopposed. As these Russian missiles would be flying over the North Pole, the ionosphere above Alaska is clearly a rational place to conduct simulations. These are simply my conjectures based on a very small amount of knowledge and may be wholly wrong - but given the huge budget that HAARP clearly enjoys, and the famous penny pinching of Congress, there must be powerful strategic interests at work, so I think it reasonable to relate HAARP to a perceived top tier threat like nuclear weapons. I understand that HAARP is now dormant with no contractor to run it, suggesting a change of strategic emphasis from nuclear war to the 'War on Terror'.

*STARFISH PRIME created an artificial aurora and caused geomagnetic perturbations detected a very long way off.

I don't suspect a connection, because I'm not even sure to what "recent behavior" you are referring =P But even if I did know what you were talking about I would ask you why you blame a radio transmitter over weather variations, influence of climate change, or other more mundane explanations.

I would question what even a hefty 3.6MW transmitter could do, it seems like a drop in the bucket as far as affecting weather phenomena like the jet stream.

Butterfly effect
I thought that HAARP can be used to modify ionosphere,
affecting the density of the upper atmosphere / tropopause
... where the jet stream is, hence divert it.

hate to admit it, but I watched that movie...
(must have been a poor movie because I remember very little of it)

ok ... I've obviously been reading too many conspiracy web pages ....
HAARP is run by the 'Good Guys' so it must be ok.

but Proud Mary, consider how impotent the ruskies really are, russian nuclear bombardment would have been trivial in an attempted "X-ray pin down" compared to the USAF Nike-Spartan nuclear "shield", having been deployed over the US.

i wouldnt go this far....

theres also a huge farm operated by the NSA in utah i wouldnt trust either.
