Seems like both columns of a bipolar Marx generator would have to fire at the same time for there to be any advantage to the bipolar design. How is this simultaneity obtained? How fussy is the adjustment of the bottom gap of each column?
Simultaneous triggering must be easier to achieve than I'm imagining. Otherwise there wouldn't be a plethora of videos demonstrating successful operation.

That would make me feel more comfortable! But I don't see or hear any mention of that being done. For example, uzzors2k bipolar Marx generator on the blue IKEA cutting board certainly doesn't seem to be equipped with anything like that.
Makes me wonder if there is some sort of sympathic coupling mechanism at work - like just plain EMI. Ironic that there might be an instance where it is beneficial.
