Hey all, I'm pretty new here and wanted to say hi!

Always tinkered through high school; built a Jacob's Ladder and a couple NST powered IEC fusion reactors and had a great time.
Now I am in college and finishing up a Tesla coil-will post pics soon. After, I hope to create a power supply that will get me much higher voltage for my fusor with a 70kV 10mA dental XRT I picked up a year or so ago.

I can hardly wait! I've had a couple ideas on how to set up the circuit, but looking for some input. I am going to run the whole setup on a 0-130V 20A variac I've had awhile. For those who are unfamiliar with fusion reactor circuitry, a very high negative biased voltage is put at the center of a vacuum chamber to accelerate ions causing them to collide and fuse.

The NST's I've worked with before, I never had to worry about them pulling too much current. How do I shunt the XRT so that it doesn't immediately blow the breaker and/or my variac fuse??

Thanks!

Not trying to rain on your parade and all that but please ensure you have a reliable Geiger counter and dosimeter.
Fusors and X-ray generators have a tendency to output low energy hard-to-detect X-rays that can do serious long term harm even though they may not show up on most counters.
If you are using a glass bell jar (bad idea) or Pyrex (worse) then the fusor absolutely needs extra shielding.

Just to give you an idea of the dangers, a single vacuum tube placed on a Tesla Coil can put you over the yearly dose limit in less than a minute.
The "pretty green glow" is actually glass fluorescing with electron beams.

Otherwise, great project and be sure to post a write-up with pictures!!

You can try ballasting. I toaster / Toaster oven / MOT / Light bulb in series with the XRT's primary will do. If you need variable current draw. Then attempt this cheap project

I made it and it works wonders.

t's a while since I read up on fusors, but doesn't current depend on gas feed rate? Can you not control current by controlling the rate of feed of deuterium?
