So I wired together some LEDs like so When I bring the LEDs close to my Slayer Exciter they light up like they're supposed to and when I move them like 6 inches away they go out. But if I connect a wire from anywhere on the LEDs to the ground pin on my PSU (shown in schematic) and touch the LEDs they will still light up several feet away from the Slayer Exciter while it is running. Why is this?
I connected the wire to mains ground instead of the power supply and the LEDs wouldn't light up. They also won't light up several feet away if I take out the wire and won't light up if I have the wire hooked up but don't touch the LEDs.

Greater capacitance?
This wireless technique uses capacitive coupling from the transmitter. Your body has greater capacitive coupling to the transmitter than the bare wire.

Your post reminds me of the time I set an old laser pointer on my sstc toroid. It lit up and was shinning on the wall. It would be cool to buy a bunch of defective led chips and glue them around the toroid or strike rail.

Use bigger plates for the transmitter and receiver rather than just wires, also, higher voltages at the transmitter and better Q all round are highly desirable.
