Hi. I am building a VFD clock with 4pcs IV-11 tubes. How can i dim the brightness of the tubes and how can i get the maximum lifetime? Reducing the filament/anode voltage?
here is a schematic: In this circuit a LDR is used - to adjust the brightness to match the illumination of the environment ?

Hi, yes PWM would reduce the brightness. Heater voltage and current needs to be kept within spec to have good tube life, 3.6V AC and the heater should be barely visible in a dark room.

Okay. I have a IC which drives the VFD tubes. It works with multiplexing... Would it work if i choose a high PWM frequency and modulate the multiplexed signals form the IC with mosfets!?
