Hi all.
Interesting effect I just noticed, the DAC32 low voltage triode, if you ground the top cap and connect -18KV or possibly higher from that old laser printer supply I have to one particular pin, the glass glows green and enough X-rays and UV are emitted to see valve structures on the Curix screen placed approx 3mm from the tube when the setup is in darkness.. couldn't get a picture of this though as it is very dim indeed.
EDIT:- Silly me, it was probably just UV from the tube discharge making it through the scintillator from the back. Need much more voltage for true X-rays, this PSU was unlikely to be much over 11KV. As the tube took the power supply with it when it failed, I'll need to find a similar one Interestingly even under oil it eventually gave out.
EDIT:- Yup, X-ray emission. The giveaway was that it worked through black plastic of a Maplins project box and also the RFID disk was clearly visible. Sadly no pictures, you'll just have to take my word that it worked. The resolution was good enough to see individual wire traces, the chip and its interconnects.
Has anyone had any success with the 5642 in reverse? EDIT:- Yes this also works, badly. It did however "nuke" a test 32GB memory card placed in its path.
EDIT 2:- Thanks to Proud Mary I now have some working dosimeters. Has anyone managed to reset the fibre sort at home yet? This one was evidently "nuked" either in the post or at some point during its history as it is reading 1/6 of the way along the scale.
