As members begin the mass migration to this new forum, I'd like for those among us with amateur radio licenses to post a little about themselves. It would be very interesting to get a few QSOs between members going, perhaps even an HF round-table sometime. People who are interested in attaining a license feel free to ask questions of the operators you see listed here. If your question warrants, I'll spin it off into a new thread.

My callsign is AB3I, I'm an extra class operator located in Warner Robins, GA. I've been licensed since January of 2000, when I was 15 years old. My previous callsign was KB3EQA.

I'm active on VHF/UHF FM, satellites and weak station, as well as 80-6m HF single side band and a couple digital modes, primarily PSK31 and SSTV. On occasion you'll find me prowling the CW bands looking for a specific continent/country/state. My favorite aspect of the hobby is homebrew, if I can't build it myself, chances are I don't really need it. I do have a commercial rig, but thats mostly because I needed something small enough to mount in the car :)

Currently my big focus is DXCC and WAS. Starting January 1st I'll be starting from scratch and attempting to get both awards in 12 months.

My setup is two Yaesu FT-857D HF/VHF/UHF mobile rigs, and a Kenwood TH-F6A 144/220/440Mhz triband handheld. I've got a pair of Potato Masher VHF/UHF satellite antennas, a set of VHF/UHF 7 element quads, a Moxon 2 element 20 meter beam, and a 50' all band vertical.

You can find me primarily on 80, 60, and 20 meters, as well as the satellites. On HF I'm typically on PSK or voice. I also go to most of the hamfests in the southeast.

My call is KB1FYR, I'm a technician class licensee, licensed in 2000. I'm not very active, although every once in a while I get a project that brings me back to ham radio.

My setup consists of an Alinco DJ-V5T (7W 2m/440/wide range recieve/transmit mod), a 2m/440 ringo ranger, and a kantronics KAM with several upgrades.

I'm in the hobby for the projects, not socializing, so you aren't likely to hear me on the local repeater.

My Callsign is KE5DKD, I am a technician class operator. I Live in Enid, Oklahoma, and usually stay on the 2m band.

I only have an Icom IC-V8 for mobile use right now, but plan on getting some more equipment when I can afford to do so.

KC0UDT, technician since May I believe.

IC-V8000 with a copper j-pole for home use, and I take the V8000 with me on the road using a 2m 3/4 wave antenna.

I also have a FT-50R, but it's with my mom at the moment since she just got her license.

Most of my work is on 2m, since 70cm seems to NEVER have activity around here. I'm currently also studying for General.

Glad to hear Dave got his vanity callsign ;) and good to hear there are plenty of hams here. I got my licence (callsign: GM0TET) when I was at high school back in the 90s sometime. Soon after I went to university, I decided ham radio "wasn't cool", sold all my rigs and let my licence lapse.

In the last year or so, my interest in Tesla coils brought me full circle back to radio and I decided to give it a try again. I bought a couple of second-hand rigs (a FT-757GXIII and a TR-751E) and had fun building some antennas, power supplies, and an ATU. I'm currently active on 2m and the 10, 14 and 18MHz HF bands. I would like to be on 3.5MHz too, but I haven't figured out how to build an effective 80m antenna at my location, a top floor apartment.

I might start a radio shack thread to show my home-brew radio projects, does anyone else think this is a good idea? If so should it go in here, or the projects board?

Hi Steve,

Have you considered trying to make a normal mode helix antenna at 80 meters? They are not as efficient as a good ol' dipole, but you should get enough performance to have some fun!

PS - I had a amateur licence when I was living in the USA (Technician, N9KWL..used to work 23 and 13 cm bands with data and ATV), but it expired in 2003... Should get it again... x)

KD6KUI, Advanced class since 1993. (yes, I was 13 when I got my advanced class license) I've been thinking recently about upgrading to extra, now that morse is no longer in the way, but I do rather enjoy holding a license of a class that nobody can get into anymore.

I am not very active these days, but I am trying to find some sort of a niche that I can operate in. I have a relatively poor location for radio, since my apartment is underground on three sides, so I am leaning towards some sort of mobile DX. We'll see!

I had a technician license (N1NNJ) but it expired a couple of years ago. I passed the test through advanced but hadn't the patience for learning code so technician was it. Perhaps I'll get back into it one of these days after I sell the wife and kids.

Some of my amateur radio activities include foxhunts (transmitter locating), amateur radio hamfests, amateur radio field day events, and the design and construction of antennas and equipment. I also enjoy helping with radio communications for special events such as SCCA road rallies, sled dog races (UP 200 in Michigan), and triathlons.
