Hi all,

I'm just putting this question out there because I would be interested to hear your experiences and feelings associated with arcs.
I notice on YT and even myself that I have this big craving to create some big, fat juicy high current arcs - there's nothing like that feeling of power with HV.

It seems like everyone starts off with high voltages at low currents, so therefore not much arcing power but they eventually get bored and move onto more powerful hotter arcs. This happened to me - I started off with a 555 driver ignition coil but got bored then moved onto flybacks, NSTs and then MOTs (with extreme caution of course!).

I would like to hear from you whether you like arcing, find it boring or whatever.

It definitely is addictive in some strange way. Not like heroin, of course. And nope, never gets boring for me, I could draw arcs/burn stuff/test conductivity(will this burn?) all day long :P.

it's hard to explain how much its interesting and curious about drawing arcs with high voltages, and how some components interfere on the final hv wave or arc.
I have started with a single 555, than a dual one (556), now zvs and tesla coil.

Yes it is addictive. I have started with transformer arcs, then moved onto Tesla coils and I think this will be the hobby of my life. I can't see getting bored by them anytime soon cheesey

I can definitely relate; arcing for me really calms me down (as strange as it sounds!) and is very pleasurable.

Looking forward to more opinions. smile

I don't think that is any more addictive than motorcycles or video games or whatever just don't lose sight of the fact that it can be a deadly sport with out respect or thought

I think so. I started with neon sign transformers and that's what started it all. Next I went to MOTs (I skipped flybacks and other stuff) and I am now working on a quad MOT stack

PS I like big fat HV arcs
