Has anyone ever tried plating PG with bismuth (another good diamagnetic material) ? A few microns should do it as Bi is almost as diamagnetic as pyrolytic graphite..
I'm a frequent lurker here but now that you've posted that I can't resist posting. I bought some pyrolytic graphite early last year and constructed short maglev tracks with it along with experimenting/playing.
After seeing the video a week or two ago I tried this myself with focused sunlight to control a piece of PG on a track, wasn't as effective I hoped but it definitely worked.

Also, it appears that it may need blue diodes to work, as the absorption of red light would spread the effect out too much. The graphite might wobble though, mind the reflections off the magnets! WEAR GOGGLES!
No doubt miniature versions of this with itty bitty coils made from plastic coated with ITO will surface as solar chargers shortly, the parts can be sourced cheaply with a simple lens array made from recycled plastic and a drill press.
I propose we call this device an "Optokinetic transformer" -A
