Hi all.
Any ideas why the "flicker" EL wire won't switch reliably using an MPSA42 yet the original sort will?
So far I can only get it to work with photoresistors and LEDs which is less than ideal.
Any ideas? Something about this wire seems to be different, I even tried tying all the cores (6) together and it still stays lit whether the transistor is off or on. Tried bypassing transistor with a diode and .. same problem.
EDIT:- Asked someone. the upshot is that it might be the base-emitter resistor is too big. Should be around 2K2 or less, I was using 10K because thats what was available. Seems that it might be device capacitance causing the transistor to stay on, with this much voltage it acts like a 200K resistor so the wire will light up.
On the flip side, has anyone tried building a Joule Thief using an MPSA42 ? Ought to generate at least 150V and should be reliable.
thanks! -A
