Hello, this is my first post here and am having a bit of trouble powering my project. I would love to benefit from someone else's knowledge.
I built a full bridge flyback driver and decided to use 3 12v xbox 360 power supplies in series which provide 16.5 amps each to feed it a total of 36v. When I wired it up and powered on the circuit the supplies only put out 24v and the LED on one of them was red, indicating a fault.
Aside from opening them up and trying to bypass the fault protection stuff, is there any way to get them to behave in series??
EDIT: Scratch that, I substituted another unit and have my full 36 volts now, Mods I'm not sure how to delete the thread...
EDIT: UPDATE
So after a while the new unit began behaving the same way. I did some research on connecting switch mode power supplies in series and found out that I should connect a reverse biased diode across the terminals of each supply as well as power them on without any load. I did both of those things and they are consistently putting out the 36v and no faults are detected. I have tested this setup more thoroughly and it appears much more stable. Previously the indicators LEDs would flicker yellow and red briefly but now all are a steady green :) Just thought someone else might benefit from this info.
