I built a super-tiny induction ring launcher ("Thompson Coilgun"/"Jumping Ring Device") where the ring is a US penny with a hole drilled through it and the ferrite core is a 1/4 inch iron rod. When powered by a 120uF photoflash cap charged to 300v, it shoots the penny about 1/3 of the way down the rod (pathetic, I know). Induction coilguns are supposed to be more efficient than their iron-shooting brethren, so now I want to build a bigger version of this.
