Hi everyone!

I was searching for induction heater papers and projects on the web yesterday, and I found this:

Does anyone knows what's that "Sync" is used for?
Does the frequency on this diagram is still manually controlled? Or does that feedback on the inverter output can control the IR2153 to get a ressonance lock?


What do you think?

it looks to me there is a jumper to switch between self resonance and external clock source, but I could be wrong

Looks like it can indeed lock to the primary current waveform, in a limited range.

And that means automatic ressonance lock?

If this is true, so we have the simplest design before Kim Ladha's one!

The IR2153 has a shutdown feature designed into the CT pin, so that both gate driver outputs can be disabled using a low voltage control signal on that pin. The low pulses from the current transformer are affecting the charge rate of the timing capacitor is such a way as to cause the circuit to not only self oscillate, which the 2153 does already, but to do so at or near the resonant frequency of the tank.

I'd like to see this in action, although I don't expect to be impressed with the tunable range compared to a PLL. Though definitely much simpler than a PLL if it does work to some degree.
