Long story cut short. Because I don't have access to a scope for physics I have been given an equiptment grant to buy one up to £1000. I would like some advice as I have never owned one before on a good one for a complete newbie!
I would also like if possible to be able to use it for my own electronics projects in the future once I become a bit more competent.
I know that this is probably a very broad question buti have no idea in this area and need it for October. So I shall be looking intoit more myself too but any advice muchly appreciated.

If you're going to spend that amount of cash you should choose wisely, features vs. performance, do you know it's long term requirements? when it breaks/is broken who will repair it, or will it be binned? check warranty period and terms etc. if you have technicial services see what they can repair, 3rd party could be beyond economical repair. Or be very careful or learn to repair 'scopes ;)
also; consider probes .. digital, current, differential, high voltage or whatever ... quite a bit of that budget may go to probes etc. or can you get a 'probes' budget later allowing the 'best' scope possible ?
P.S. 'scopes are pretty reliable, probes wear out/die
