I hope the wood doesn't surface track, wood isn't usually all that good an insulator. I imagine a capacitor-guts-to-case arc could damage the caps, too.

This is not my first version using these parts, and in past versions I had the caps directly together, which did work. I am also afraid of a case arc, so now I spaced them better. The wood should be ok since they did work when placed directly together. This version has a 40kv potential xformer charging the 50kv rated caps. In a previous version, I used a 14.4kv pole xformer. The old version can be seen in this video...

I expect twice teh power from this one, not to mention that my coils are arranged in a much better configuration as well.

I hope to fire the beast this week, and will postr photos and a video of whatever might happen.
