hi folks, ive been looking for the datasheet for this part:

IR 339-011-0001

its a SCR/ Thyristor
theres plenty of things on the web about it, but no stats or datasheet :/
i want to make a Coilgun with it...

Thanks,

All I could find was that it is 600 V, 70 Adc, 1300 Apk.

hmm, hows the best way to calculate how many capacitors i can use within its Apk, each of my caps are 4700uf @ 400v

Nice bag o' capacitors you got there, Tom.

1. If you don't want to subject your capacitors to 1300 A each, use enough in parallel to meet your intended Imax_per_capacitor. 1300 A is probably not abusive to a single cap that size.

2. If your goal is a max. coil current of 1300 A when caps are charged to 400 volts, you can use any number of caps with a coil designed for that number.
Barry has made it easy to do exploratory calculations.

[edit] But you will find that the pulse duration (as coil is increased, to limit current to 1300 A) goes up linearly with the number of capacitors. If your SCR's I_pk rating is for 10 ms ( 1/2 cycle at 50 Hz ) then three C's is pushing it. Also figure how big and slow your projectile would need to be, to accelerate for 10 ms before being centered in coil. I'd suggest using ONE capacitor with that SCR. Then you'll have more time to learn, before the accident that destroys the SCR.
