Dear HV-friends out there wink

Some time ago I built the following multiplier project. The results are not as spectacular as with a tesla coil, but the building- and planning phase of the project was really funny.

Some of the specs first: The latest version of the multiplier contains 13 stages with 16kV each, but I put in only about 14kVss, which is in fact only about 5kV eff, but with rather high current. Output is a hot arc discharge up to about 18cm or some noisy 22cm sparks. The output current is limited by a resistor array of 39 high power resistors in series with 6.8kOhm and 11W resp. 17W each.

Some pictures:

Capacitors are cheap ceramic caps, for every cap a serial connection of two 8kV/2nF caps, and then five of these pairs of them paralleled. Diodes are two different types. There are 2CL2FM (20kV/200mA fast recovery) and some micrwave-oven diodes SCL-11Z which I got cheap from an online-auction.

The setup is powered by a royer coverter together with a self made high frequency ferrit HV-transformer. The Royer converter draws about 16A @ 58V.

Some low power corona at 100kV in the very first beginning (only a test-setup):

Congrats!

Now where will you store that big toy?

Thanks!

Good question wink I live in a house and I've got two different work places, so I can let it be for a while as it is, but you're right, the setup is very unhandy, because I didn't want to work with oil insulation. Maybe I will disassemble the multiplier circuit and use the material for future projects. I've done this the same way with several other projects in the past, for examples some of my earlier tesla coils. Saves money and space smile

Thank you, Dri0m smile

A friend gave me the core for free, but I don't know were it was from.

A little movie, unfortunately not from the latest setup, so only 16cm arcs:

You can go without oil up to a point, see Link2

Very nice setup, radhoo! Really handy. Like it! smile Is it all selfmade or from an x-ray-machine?
